The Long Island Rail Road takes you to business or pleasure quickly and comfortably, without the expense of parking fees and tolls. Most travelers go to or from Penn Station, but many stop in Queens and Brooklyn and take advantage of subway connections into Manhattan.

Tickets

Tickets may be purchased on the trains but it is more costly to do so when the ticket offices are open. Most stations also sell subway and bus tokens for New York City.

Fares

By traveling during off-peak hours you can save up to 30 percent over rush hour fares. All trains other than those scheduled to arrive at western terminals weekdays between 6:00 and 10:00 AM, and depart those terminals between 4:00 and 7:00 PM, are off-peak.

Baggage, Bicycles and Pets

Carry-on items must stow easily and safely in the racks located overhead. Bicycles may normally be taken on most off-peak trains, but you will need a Cyc-n-Ride permit obtainable from the ticket office. Small pets are allowed, but must be confined to closed, ventilated containers. Guide dogs for sight-impaired riders are permitted.
